Interpreter

The interpreter profession is part of the Service domain.

An interpreter is responsible for translating a statement orally from one language to another. Umberto Ecco captured the essence of this profession, which is to “say almost the same thing”. The heart of the interpreter’s job is indeed to reproduce, in another language, the words that emanate from a person. He must do this without betraying its original meaning, but without having recourse to word for word, and while retaining the correctness of tone and nuance. In this sense, the work of the interpreter is more synthetic than that of a translator, and more performative.

The interpreter can work in two consecutive ways, when listening, taking notes and translating, or simultaneously, speaking with only a few seconds of delay with the speaker.
