Expanding the role of community pharmacists in primary care - The  Pharmaceutical Journal

 

 

Person who, as a health specialist, provides pharmaceutical care to the various clienteles of a neighborhood pharmacy. To do this, she checks the medical prescription and makes sure that the patients do not present any real or potential problems related to the consumption of the prescribed drugs. She then prepares the medications and educates clients on their use, contraindications, side effects and drug interactions. She designs and implements a pharmaceutical care plan in order to solve the problems associated with the combined intake of different drugs. In some cases, it issues a pharmaceutical opinion to the doctor in order to modify or interrupt treatment. She also advises clients on the choice and use of over-the-counter medications. In addition, she controls the management of stocks of pharmaceutical products and takes care of the maintenance of client files.
