Person responsible for investigating the circumstances and causes of death in violent, obscure or unspecified circumstances (murder, accident, poisoning, etc.) in order to be able to decide whether there will be grounds for prosecution. She must, among other things, determine the identity of the person, the precise location of the mischief, if any, as well as the exact circumstances and the real causes of death. She must then question witnesses if there are any, order the autopsy, seek expert advice and testify in court on the results of her investigation. If necessary, she can lay homicide charges, prosecute and issue arrest warrants. Finally, it formulates recommendations with a view to improving the protection of the population.
