Person who performs experiments and analyzes in order to better understand the effects that pharmaceutical products and drugs have on the entire human or animal organism (cells, organ functions, intermolecular reactions, immune system, etc.) and thus improve the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of physical or mental illnesses. She works in collaboration with doctors to assess the efficacy and safety of certain drugs for which she establishes the standard recommended dose. She checks the possible carcinogenic, mutagenic or teratogenic effects of certain drugs or certain chemical substances and participates in the search for innovations in the field (new drug, new production technique, etc.). She may also be interested in the prevention of diseases caused by food, industrial or chemical substances, or study the problems caused by drug abuse.
